The Republic of Chad, is a landlocked country in central Africa. It is bordered by Libya, Sudan, the Central African Republic, Cameroon, Nigeria and Niger to the west. Chad is home to over 200 different ethnic groups and Arabic & French are the official languages. The country is one of the poorest and most corrupt countries in the world and has been plagued by political violence. Over 80% of the population are  living below the poverty line. Crude oil production  has become the countries biggest source of export earnings now superseding cotton exports.

 The Crude oil production increase is largely thanks to foreign investment and the completion of a pipeline that links the oilfields in Southern Chad to ports on the Atlantic coast in Cameroon.
