Tanzania's economy is very much agriculturely based, which accounts for more than half of GDP, provides approximately 85% of exports, and employs roughly 8 out of 10 people for its workforce. Topography and climatic conditions, however, limit cultivated crops to only 4% of the land area.
Industry is limited mainly to processing agricultural products and light consumer goods. The natural resources in Tanzania are vast and includes deposits such as gold and diamonds. Tanzania is also known for the Tanzanite gemstones.
Tanzania is riddled with dozens of beautiful national parks like the world famous Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. These parks help to generate income with a large tourism sector that plays a vital part in the economy.
