In 2008 the institution has enrolled 9,400 students and is offering undergraduate and graduate qualifications in technical and technological disciplines. Specific to this post are the specializations in IT (Bachelor in Business Computing, Information Systems Administration & Networks, and Software Engineering) as well as the Master of IT.
The Polytechnic is Namibia's Regional and Local Cisco Academy, and offers foundations for Microsoft and Oracle databases. Other relevant specializations are Journalism & Media Technology, Engineering (the Professional Degree in Civil, Electrical, Electronic & Mechanical).
The Polytechnic of Namibia is now partnership with Mobile Telecommunication Company (MTC), Namibia's leading cellular technology company, to create the platform for the development of the next generation of leaders in ICT.
MTC will fund the Endowed Chair as a full-time position at the Polytechnic for a period of five years, designated as Professor in the School of Information Technology. The Professor will support teaching, research and services, and focus on ICT in Education and Development.
The Professor will also be the Advisor in ICT to the Namibia Business Innovation Centre (NBIC). The NBIC will be a one-stop-shop for business incubation, consultancies, startups and anchor companies, research and technology transfer.Profile and Requirements
The successful candidate must have a PhD and an established international reputation in teaching, research, service and fundraising
A combination of the following is recommended
* teaching at under- and post-graduate levels;
* student guidance, mentorship and counselling regarding teaching and research projects;
* faculty mentorship in teaching, research and service;
* international scholarship as Visiting Professor or Fellow;
* a research record as principal or co-investigator;
* senior or co-authorship in refereed professional or scientific journals, and magazines, and other scholarly work;
* service as member of thesis or dissertation committees;
* experience in establishing research clusters and start-up companies;
* active involvement in organizing national and international conferences, seminars and workshops;
* consultant for, collaboration with, government or national review committees, international development agencies or technology review panels;
* participation in policy making and regulation and organizational development processes at national and institutional level;
* office-bearer in professional or scientific organizations providing service to national or international organizations;
* leadership in collaborative ventures with/in universities;
* service to community organizations and other representative bodies;
* experience in networking and fundraising.
