The Senior Basis Consultant is responsible for the day to day support and maintenance of the technical SAP environment.

The Senior Basis Consultant plays a key role on the running small projects, performing a leading role on phases or areas of a large project.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the day to day support and maintenance of the technical SAP R/3 environment. This includes meeting facilitations, tracking and influencing tasks progress, tracking of project deliverables, etc.

Liaise with functional and development teams, SAP R/3 users, SAP Germany, external vendors, system analysts and database administrators on problems experienced. Assist in the implementation of any new mySAP components and implement technical SAP R/3 and Database software upgrades.

Interact with SAP organization as appropriate. Work with SAP Implementation Partners to ensure seamless delivery of services. Also informs management of trends in the marketplace and alerts them of potential long-term opportunities.

Perform preventative maintenance and housekeeping, including application security monitoring, as well as SAP system tuning on a pro-active and as needs basis. Assist in managing the various assigned SAP systems and relating environments.

Qualifications & Experience

• Grade 12 or higher Qualification
• Candidate must have at least 5 years experience within SAP R/3 Basis
• SAP Certification in SAP Basis
• Knowledge of SAP new dimension products including Netweaver and ESA.
• Have experience with SAP R/3, mySAP implementations and Oracle upgrades.
• Extensive Oracle Database, SunOS UNIX and Microsoft 2003 server knowledge.
• Operations expertise in SAP systems management.
• A working knowledge of SAP R/3 and Oracle security features.
• Have experience with administering and managing SUNOS Unix environment.
• Have sound knowledge of the SAP R/3 data archiving approach.
• Understand Web technology including HTML, J2EE, XML, .net infrastructure
• Understand mySAP Enterprise Portal, Knowledge Management Application
• Understand the mySAP product suite
• Have knowledge of SAP R/3 performance tuning, high availability and failover systems, storage (direct or SAN), networking, disaster recovery, server consolidation, middleware, portals custom development and J2EE background
• Scripting expertise in Perl and Shell to fulfill technical/business requirements

The typical problems experienced in this post are:

SAP R/3The cause of the error must be evaluated from the available system logs and either from experience or research a resolution must be decided upon and implemented. Depending on the severity of the problem being experienced it may require assistance from SAP Germany or other external consultants.

Oracle

The SAP R/3 instance is also unavailable for productive use if the Oracle database is unavailable. The cause of the error must be evaluated from the available system logs and either from experience or research a resolution must be decided upon.

UNIX

The SAP R/3 instance as well as the Oracle database will also not be available if the UNIX operating system is not available for productive use. The UNIX administrator will determine the cause of the problem and provide a resolution

Windows 2003 Server

The SAP R/3 instance as well as the Oracle database will also not be available if the Windows 2003 operating system is not available for productive use. The Windows 2003 Server administrator will determine the cause of the problem and provide a resolution
